Instagram has postponed the launch of its much-anticipated video-editing app, 'Edits,' initially scheduled for March 13, 2025. According to the latest update on the App Store's pre-order page, users can now expect the app to debut on March 31, 2025, marking a delay of approximately two weeks.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s CEO, officially unveiled the Edits app back in January 2025, highlighting it as an innovative platform tailored specifically for creators passionate about mobile video content. During the announcement, Mosseri emphasized that Edits would significantly improve mobile video-making experiences with features such as a high-quality built-in camera for capturing professional-grade footage.

Edits will directly compete with CapCut, a popular video-editing app owned by TikTok's parent company, ByteDance. Interestingly, Instagram’s announcement coincided with a brief U.S. outage of TikTok and CapCut on January 19, 2025. While this timing raised speculation among users and industry watchers, no concrete evidence has surfaced suggesting it was anything other than coincidental.

Instagram's Edits promises to offer comprehensive video-editing tools, including multi-clip editing, cropping, audio integration (music, sounds, and voiceovers), and subtitle creation. Users can also record directly within the app, benefiting from advanced camera settings such as adjustable resolution, frame rates, and color profiles. Additionally, Edits will enable watermark-free video exports, making it convenient for creators to share their content across various social platforms.

Moreover, Edits will introduce two unique features aimed at inspiring creativity and boosting productivity: an "Inspiration" tab for exploring fresh content ideas, and another dedicated section for organizing personal drafts and ongoing projects. Creators can also expect detailed performance insights, allowing them to analyze and enhance the reach of their videos effectively.

Instagram has confirmed that the app will initially launch exclusively on iOS devices, with the Android version expected shortly thereafter. This phased rollout approach underscores Instagram’s strategic focus on capturing mobile creators' interest, particularly those who prioritize high-quality video production.
