Several factors contribute to the substantial size of files. One of the most significant is resolution. Higher resolution videos, like 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels), capture and display more detail than lower resolutions like 1080p (1920 × 1080 pixels) or 720p (1280 × 720 pixels). However, this increased level of detail comes at the cost of larger sizes. A minute of 4K video can easily reach 300 MB or more.
Video length is another straightforward factor influencing size. Longer videos contain more data and thus have larger sizes compared to shorter videos at the same resolution. Additionally, the amount of editing, effects, and transitions applied to a video during post-production can impact the final size, as these elements add more data to the video file.
The combination of high resolution, lengthy duration, and extensive editing can result in video files that are too large to send via email or messaging apps, necessitating the use of cloud storage, compression, or other dedicated sharing solutions that we'll explore in the following sections.
